Mount Rainier Video
In and around Seattle, Washington, conversations about the weather often seem to include the iconic Mount Rainier: “yeah, she’s out today,” “haven’t seen her in a few days.”
This speaks to how important this backdrop of a mountain is to the city of Seattle. (It also speaks to just how often the clouds are out, but mostly the other thing). After all, at 14,416 feet, and surrounded by 6,000- and 7,000-foot peaks, it appears monstrous from afar.
Close up, it also appears monstrous. FYI.
We knew that odds of seeing Rainier in the spring are about 50/50 on any given day. To increase our chances, we spent four days around the park, hiking low-country trails and taking the scenic drive up to Paradise (which was the furthest road openings allowed). Luckily, we had one amazingly clear day (surrounded by three not-so-clear ones), so we got to see Mount Rainier in all her glory.
