I feel like the best of Big Bend came out to greet us last week when we visited our 26th national park.
The stars were twinkling, the wildlife was abundant (one elk, six mule deer, one Mexican black bear, lots of roadrunners and jackrabbits), and the amazing views practically slapped us in the face.
We were blown away. We had heard pretty great things about Big Bend, but what we experienced far exceeded our expectations.
We visited the park in fashion typical of most travelers: hiking the Chisos Mountains, seeing the Rio Grande up close, and meandering through the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. But we also tried to get off the path in atypical #SwitchbackStyle: crossing into the Mexican village of Boquillas, kayaking through Santa Elena Canyon, and backpacking to the Chisos Mountain’s Emory Peak and South Rim.
